Summer 2018 Support Request
Konichiwa! Hey friends!
This year God has been knocking on my heart to get back to what he first called me to- world missions. In praying for what he wants for my husband and I, we were brought back to Japan over and over. Why there though? It's one of the hardest grounds to reach with the Gospel. Only one percent claims to be Christian there which is about 3 million according to the US State Department. It's deemed "Western religion" there and people don't want anything to do with it.
But when God calls, you must go! This summer we have the opportunity to go with a team from Gateway Seminary to the mega-city of Yokohama, Japan to serve with the long-term IMB missionaries currently working there. We will be working on the ground from July first through ninth. They would like to utilize team member’s specific skills & giftings as they make a plan for the ministries we will participate in. The team will likely visit several different ministry sites throughout the week which could include helping with a church plant, working with college students, and street evangelism. I will let you know more when I do!
God first put this on my heart after an IMB luncheon meeting at Gateway Seminary that had a guest speaker that worked in Japan with his family. He challenged us to start praying to ask God if Japan is a place he would want us to serve.
In this time of preparation, my husband and I are praying that God will open our eyes and hearts to what he has planned for our next steps in life. I feel called to serve overseas in Japan mid-term and want to take this opportunity to explore that calling, but I am not so sure if that is the same calling for him... It's those moments when having coffee with mentors and they ask "what's next" when I get that sinking feeling in my stomach. God has been helping me work through that in my quiet time most recently.
Whatever He wants, I want. His dreams for me are now my dreams. I am to live my life for the Lord and not for myself...but how HARD can that be?! I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
The IMB highlighted work in Japan this past Christmas season during one of its Lottie Moon emphasis weeks. To get a taste of the work going on there, please watch this video: https://vimeo.com/232095535
As you pray, ask God if He would have you partner with us financially in this mission. This help would be greatly appreciated and is tax deductible. For both of us, this trip will be eight days long and total cost is $4,000, which includes the airfare, meals, and board.
