Watercolor Days
I'm in a summer state of mind. It means I can spend my days doing whatever I want! Cue Alice Cooper singing, "School's Out For Summma" here.
Summer also means hot and sunny days in SoCal. I'm sure you're feeling the heat waves too. Yet, the bright colors of summer make me want to create something so I've started multiple crafts of various mediums.
My first choice of outlets was to watercolor. I began painting signs for the cafe I work at and some just for fun: collage of ideas, an hours sign for spring break week and... soft serve ice cream.
I was over the moon when the shop got ice cream and now I graze daily on good old affogatos while I paint!
Notice how it all consists of being in air-conditioned rooms and frozen yummy treats.
This is how you beat the heat, but harness the beauty of summer.
Something about the simplicity of my paint palette and murky water makes me feel like a true artist as I sling that colored water over the pages and call it art.
I seek inspiration from other bloggers and Pinterest photos. This helps me learn technique of real painters and how to use this type of paint the way it was meant to be.
Maybe I can share some of my artistic inspiration and you can do a watercolor painting project all on your own!
All you would need is a booklet of watercolor paper (the thicker the pages, the better), and any watercolor paints set. I purchased my pages from Hobby Lobby and watercolors from Walmart. No need to break the bank as you explore this new hobby.
It helps if the palette you purchase is in hard plastic instead of a thinner/softer one so that when you mix colors in the lid, it won't sling across the table if you forget to hold it steady! (I would know, sadly!)
Have fun with your new project, try not to stress. Choose an easier feat in the beginning as not to vex yourself out of ever trying this again!
It isn't about if your project does not turn out perfectly the first time, but the experience of creating something, letting your creative energies out.
