Commit your way to the Lord
"Commit your way to the Lord trust in him and do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him: Do not fret when men succeed in their ways; when they carry out their wicked schemes"
Psalms 37:5-7
Good morning from Alabama, friends! As I promised, I read on in the 'Bill Wallace of China' biography. Bill grows into a man of God and follows the call from Him to become a medical missionary. I'm not trying to spoil the books for y'all, but the dedication to God and his mission is inspiring in the least. He turned down an opportunity that was so great in terms of American standing in the world. It makes me wonder about my depth of faith- will I choose God when the trials come between going or staying?
That makes me think of the sermon from yesterday. It was on 1 Corinthians 8 and 10, concerning idolatry and eating the food that was offered to idols. The topic sounds obscure, I know, but the point was to keep your brothers from sinning and to keep away from the demons that are pleased when one worships at an idol's temple. Then the application of this was 'what are your personal idols?' What if my idol is 'people' and what they think of me? What if my dream of living overseas and to work with the diseased is just a way to appear better than others who stay in America their whole lives? I must fight this sin if this is true. All glory goes to my Father who brought me here and will lead my life as he sees fit. All praise and honor to His name and never anything to mine for I am just his vessel.
And now to the verses that I put up top. I really like these because it is the exact encouragement I need right now. I have committed myself to The Lord and have to learn to trust Him. My life in his hands will prosper and I need to be still to wait for Him. I'm not sure how y'all feel about what Obama's doing in office but my dad doesn't like AT ALL what he's doing to this country and I've hear it multiple times a week. The last section touches on this perfectly: do not fret when men succeed in their ways [or] wicked schemes. God has everything under control. This world is not our home! We should not worry about the ways of the world, but be focused on how we can be praising God more in our lives.
"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and maybe pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ- to the glory and praise God."
-Philippians 1:9-11
God bless you,
I am just learning, but my heart is not afraid
