Autumn
I love fall. It's just all so lovely.
Sweaters come out
Holiday parties are planned
Families get together
Thanksgiving food
Long walks in the late afternoon
Leaves change color across the Appalachians
Autumn wardrobe colors of prune, umber, gray, & evergreen
Twinkle lights belong here, as do candles
The air becomes crisp
There is some sort of magic in it too
I love the feeling autumn gives you. A deep quiet serenity with edges of excitement. Autumn, to me, is a season of planning. Parties, holiday trips, recipes, and gifts. It's all quite a nervous expectancy. "What will happen next?" "When can I fit in this get-together?"
One is given the chance to reflect on the rest of the year as well. Plans for the whole next year are thought of in this season, sometimes thought out, but at other times, pulled out by prying relatives over a platter of sliced ham.
Recently I took a family road trip (brother pictured above!) back to our tribe in Christie, Virginia. We saw the loveliest colors of fall when traveling through the winding roads that cut through the Cherokee National Forest. The mountains were alive with color.
One of these days I'll have to go back to those mountains to live. Mobile is not the place to experience fall, but
my dreaming will have to do for now.
