The mountains rise above the bus as we skirt past on a small wet road going farther into the Cloud Forest. The jungle rises above us on both sides as peaks disappear into the clouds above. Miles back, we could see miles of towns and rolling hills before we got into higher foliage. That view is like scenes from a picture book.
The landscape is unreal to me, a traveler only of eastern Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. So much green throughout the Cloud Forest, amongst the fog, fruit trees, and birds.
Welcome to Ecuador!
This summer I am in Ecuador serving as an intern with The International Ministry of Jesus. They partner with The Meeting Place and The Houses of Happiness which I get to spend my time at during my time here! This week is at The Meeting Place, where a short term team from The Church at Brook Hills serves the community and works on keeping up the buildings. Today we got to re-paint the dorms and build a garage for the founder's house! Joan Beak and her late husband Tom bought this farm ten years ago because the Lord put it on their hearts to do so. He said to Joan,
"I want you to build a place here for me. It is to be called The Meeting Place. It will be a special place where I can meet my people & do many things. I will build solid relationships, equip new disciples, and anoint workers for the kingdom. This place must sleep sixty people."
This is recorded along with their story in Joe Turman's book, Last Stop Over Ecuador, among other key figures that serve here as well such as Tito Bill and Eduardo Andrade.
I am enjoying the company of the team leaders, Bob and Ann Coe, who served here for three years with their family. They are kind Godly people and I appreciate them taking me under their wing.
This place is just surreal. Beautiful plants, dense fog, regular sprinkles at two a.m., and THE MOUNTAINS. Their height astounds me. Seven thousand feet never looked so good. Marie Edith Andrade is an amazing cook and blesses us three times a day with modern and traditional Ecuadorian foods (that are DELICIOUS).
Please be in prayer for this summer and the work the Lord is doing here through his servants. Pray for wisdom in discerning his will and peace in knowing him more every day. Pray for the Andrade family and Mrs. Joan Beak as they continually serve the Lord as he guides them.
I lift my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, maker of Heaven and Earth.
